walking tour of Venice

This morning-- before the crack of dawn (AKA 8:45am) we met a group for a walking tour of Venice. It was a  really a good your with lots and lots of walking. Venice is not a very large place but it is full of alleys and round about ways to get anywhere. There is really no way to get to anyplace in Venice by a direct route. The charm they say of the city...getting lost. We have gotten last a few times and some of the charm wears off if you are in a hurry! ;-)

the Grande Canal was very quiet when we got to Venice this morning

someone is not a morning person ;-)

a 24 hour clock- these are everywhere ( it is about 8:30am)

St. Mark's square

the balcony of the basilica of St. Mark's

I am on the balcony for this photo

time to break out the sun gear

isn't she precious
we had lunch at a little place near St. Mark's. It was a tourist menu where you choose 2 courses ( 1/2 size portions) I had gnocchi with tomato sauce the second course was fried potato salad. We were all curious about what a fried potato salad was. Well it came as a 1/2 plate of french fries and 1/2 of green salad.
We then spent a bunch of time sitting in the courtyard (covered porch/ shade) of a church with a water fountain.

it is great to find the water fountains as water id very costly on the island
We just find the fountain and keep refilling out water bottles.

We walked to the other side of the island and found a great place to sit. I love to hear the waves and smell the sea.
the little island in the distance is the cemetery for Venice

doing a little shopping--- we have stopped at about a million shops just here in Venice.

Today's Flavors:
 Chris- peach and cherry
Janelle- Chocolate chip and peach
Ais- chocolate mouse and vanilla (they did not have hazelnut)

I've been enjoying following your trip here on your blog. What a fabulous opportunity to get to travel and see so many things! I have to admit I am green with envy! Some day we hope to get to Europe and see the sites. Sounds like you have been having a wonderful time!! Pretty soon you get to go on another fun adventure to Australia. I wish we would have been closer in age (in our twenties and single), because I would have loved to have gone on trips with you. Continuing having a great time!!!!
