We made it to Venice!
We are staying about 20-25 minutes (by train) from the city/island itself.
We took the train from Florence to Venice this morning without incident. We bought some cherries from the farmers market and ate them on the train with some cheese- super yummy!
We got the the main train station and then took another train to the place where we are staying. We almost missed the stop. We had loaded all our bags and sat near a door. I was looking for the name of the station and as we were pulling up to the station Ais asked "is this it?" and Chris said I think it is the next one. I glanced at the sign and said- "NO this is our stop" we got up quickly and began to unload. It was supposed to be a short stop but it took a little longer to unload us. Chris got bags down from the overhead (ALL the suitcases were overhead--heavy) and I straddled the train and the platform unloading bags while the porter blew his whistle at me... finally we were all off and the porter waved the train on. WHEW- that was close.
We stood on the platform and Ais asked where the hotel was... I looked up and there it was! Literally across the tracks. We are staying at a Crowne Plaza. It is very nice and roomy. The tub is the best so far!
We walked around the town this afternoon and found a grocery store... yogurt and juice and bread- check. We even found a gelato shop...
