Monday and MIchelangelo Square

Monday in Florence is a day off for most of the tourist attractions and even some regular markets.
We went to the large grocery store this morning and got fresh bread and a few other things. on our way to the market we stopped for our first gelato of the day (aka breakfast of champions)...
on the way back we stopped at a pastry shop and bought some cream puffs...

packaged so pretty

tasted soooo yummy
We had lunch at home and then walked to the Michelangelo Square. It is a beautiful overlook of the city on  hill. It was a bit of a hike... but well worth it.
we are going to the flat part

the first set of stairs

the next set of stairs

yet more "stairs"

a friend to rest with (about 1/2 way)

fourth and final set of stairs

it's a bit wild today

part of the old city wall

you can see our house from here ( the last white bldg on the right of the river)

the David is facing Rome (and he is scowling) ;-)

As long as we were at the top of the hill we decide to explore what else there was there… we were delighted to find a basilica and cemetery.

Chris has found a new interest in the olive--- here he is with a tree, and some flowers from the trees and even little fruit. I think if we lived here we would be olive farmers.

Today’s flavors (two places today)
Chris 1- apricot and cantaloupe
2- apple and ricotta with pear
Janelle 1- Bianci de Firenze (yogurt with chocolate chips and strawberries) and apricot
2- Italian Opera (some kind of nut) and lemon with cookies
Ais 1- hazelnut (double)
      2- hazelnut (double)

It is funny you commented that mom as just before I had asked Chris to take more photos with people we know in them...because some people like photos of people rather than places :-)
