Temple of the 10,000 Buddhas and more

today we were total tourists...
we got cards to ride the metro system (which is super easy to use)
and we went to the Temple of the 10,000 Buddhas. I think they should rename it the temple of the 10,000 steps....
it was high on a hill and the walk was very
steep. there were at least 3 steps for every Buddha.
There were statues that lined the entire walk. we began at the base of the mountain and climbed up

this was the view fat the beginning of the walk

this is the view from the top... we started where the little collection of dark tall buildings

at the top is a beautiful Buddha
there was even a little area where Buddhas were holding animals. I think this one is holding a pug!

the view from the top was so lovely... you may notice how sweaty Chris is.... even just walking out the door i began to sweat. it is hot and feels much worse because of the humidity. My skin and hair LOVE it. we found a little market and bought a bunch of water and juice to keep well hydrated. I have a little headache tonight but think it is the heat. I need to get a hat!

just in case you worried about using a loo in a foreign land.... beware the moneys...
There was one monkey and i was pointing to it... to show Chris.... and the monkey was a little aggressive... Chris said "don't point at it, don't even make eye contact" .... other than the monkey i feel very safe here!

then we hopped the train and went to a botanical garden and nunnery
this Buddha pine tree is 1000 years old

the temple at the nunnery was amazing... it is from the Tang dynasty. there are no nails or metal used in the construction... just tightly fitted wood pieces... the wood was a yellow cedar. The smell was wonderful (with a little incense)
there were two courtyards and we walked though 2 gates/doorways. the outermost courtyard had ponds

the botanical garden was also lovely... but it was getting very hot in the afternoon....
